You can design, test and iterate on an app for free indefinitely, but publishing a live site or app on a custom domain, or submitting a mobile build to an app store, requires upgrading to a paid plan.

Workload Units, AI builder & scaling
Workload Units are Bubble's way of collapsing server cost into one number instead of asking you to track compute, bandwidth and database load separately — and because a project's web and mobile apps share one backend, all their activity draws from the same WU pool. You'll get an email at 75% and 100% of your allowance, and you can disable overages entirely to hard-cap spend, or buy an add-on workload tier (Starter, Growth and Team plans only) if your app is simply growing. Bubble's Copilot AI can generate a first working draft from a prompt, which helps get a new app off the ground quickly, but production apps with non-trivial logic still rely on manually building out workflows in the visual editor — plan your WU budget around real usage, not just the Copilot-generated starting point.
